Book Review : Sea Witch by Sarah Henning

Synopsis

Ever since her best friend, Anna, drowned, Evie has been an outcast in her small fishing town. A freak. A curse. A witch.

A girl with an uncanny resemblance to Anna appears offshore and, though the girl denies it, Evie is convinced that her best friend actually survived. That her own magic wasn’t so powerless after all. And, as the two girls catch the eyes—and hearts—of two charming princes, Evie believes that she might finally have a chance at her own happily ever after.

But her new friend has secrets of her own. She can’t stay in Havnestad, or on two legs, unless Evie finds a way to help her. Now Evie will do anything to save her friend’s humanity, along with her prince’s heart—harnessing the power of her magic, her ocean, and her love until she discovers, too late, the truth of her bargain.

This was the first book for Lit Coven reads of 2019, also the first book I read for the year and I am a bit conflicted about how to rate it.

November Wrap Up 2018

November was quite a month for me, I started it with a book I really dislike but then it continued on with book s that I am in love with.   This month I read

  • November 9 by Collen Hoover
  • The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient, #1) by Helen Hoang
  • The ShadowShaper series (Shadowshaper and Shadowhouse Fall ) by Daniel José Older
  • They Both Die at the End by  Adam Silvera

Before I talk about what I thought about these books, some questions. What did you guys read this November? Have you read any of the books I did? If so what did you think about them?

Book Review: The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

Synopsis
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases — a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases — a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice — with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan — from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…

Shantall Reads : November 9 pages 1-112

tumblr_inline_phiumxosgr1w37qe3_540

I read the first 100 pages of this book, the last chapter ended on 112 so I decided to finish the chapter rather than end mid-chapter. And boy do I have some thoughts on this. This will NOT be spoiler free so read under the cut at your own peril. And again these are just my opinions and how I felt reading the book, so take it with a grain of salt ‘kay.

Shantall Reads

Okay, so I am going to give it another shot at the read along thing.

A couple of months ago I had been perusing through Barnes & Nobles for my next read when I saw someone trying to reach a book on a high up shelf and I offered it to help her get it. She accepted and when I saw what book she wanted (I believe it was Six of Crows I can’t quite recall) I told her that she should totally get it because I loved the characters.

She smiled and suggested that I pick up November 9 because it was one of her favorites. I said cool and added it to my pile. Which was then added to a corner in my room with the rest of my TBR.

With November almost here I thought ‘hey why not read a book about November’. So here I am, reading November 9th.

My goal is to do this in only 3 check ins, meaning reading at least 100 pages every ‘reading along thoughts’ post. I am starting today so I will be posting my thoughts on the first 100 pages today. I am coming to this with an open mind as I have head good and bad things about it.

So here we go.
